Most active homebuilders in the Austin area per Zonda

The 53 homebuilders in the Austin-area featured on the digital list reported 16,580 housing starts during 2024, along with 19,625 closings. In print, the top 40 listmakers accounted for the majority of the construction with 16,302 starts and 19,300 the closings. The Austin Business Journal's 2025 ranking includes builders operating Travis, Williamson, Hays, Bastrop, Burnet and Caldwell counties. The list is ranked by number of starts with the number of closings as the tie breaker. Information on The List was obtained from Zonda Data Intelligence and Zonda Media | Builder Magazine. Data tracks observed new home starts during 2024 and includes both detached and attached homes, such as townhomes and condos. This list is part of a broader strategy shift in our research methodology and philosophy in 2025, one that will emphasize more data and context for readers while better coordinating the resources available to us and our 40-plus sister publications under the American City Business Journals flag. We anticipate this effort will identify thousands of new local records — and cumulatively, tens of thousands of new businesses across ACBJ's footprint — this year alone.
