Businesses in budding Texas THC sector applaud Abbott's move to regulate, not ban products

A ban on such hemp-derived THC products would have sunk an industry that, according to one estiate, employs more than 53,000 workers in Texas and generated $4.3 billion in retail revenue in 2025, according to data by Whitney Economics. Instead, Gov. Greg Abbott has called a special session of the state Legislature beginning July 21 to regulate the industry — a move many businesses that sell the products have advocated.
